“No Bait Bear”

            In today’s society, gender plays a huge part in our forms of entertainment. The same is true in the magazines that men and women buy. There are many different types of magazines that are mainly for men and some are just for women. In the February/March 2008 edition of Petersen’s Hunting magazine, the majority of the articles are geared towards men because men are typically the ones who go out and hunt. One article that is geared towards men is “No Bait Bear” because it only shows pictures of men during the article, men are usually the only ones that go out and hunt, and women are not mentally stable to go hunting.

            Throughout the whole magazine there is only one picture a woman, if you do not include the male enhancement ad in the very back. This shows that they are gearing the magazine towards men. If they wanted the magazine to be geared towards women, they should have added some women to some of the pictures just to make sure that everybody knows that women can go hunting just like men do. That is also the case in movies during scenes where hunting is involved. The men are always the only ones hunting while the women are back at the house. This particular article tells men how to hunt a bear without even using bait. The author is treating it like a game that men do on the side, and the gear that are featured in the ads are like toys that children use. Men are the only people using these forms of equipment.

            Men are usually the only ones that go out and hunt. Men can be considered the masters of the hunt. This is due to their hunting instincts that they have developed ever since the beginning of time. The men would always go out and hunt a herd of buffalo or some other creature and bring it home for their family. This should still be the case in today’s world because are the only ones that are fit to go out and hunt. This is in our nature and blood. Sometimes we go hunting in order to look good in front of the women.

            Women can be considered mentally unstable to go hunting. We said earlier that a woman can be mentally unstable to become the president of the United States; the same can be true regarding hunting. To be a good hunter you must be able to block out any emotional attachment to a certain animal in order to kill out. We all know that a woman can get freaked out by the site of a dead animal, how do you expect for them to react when they shoot and kill one. Women can be no match to a big ferocious bear. They can smell fear in our eyes and that leads to a bear attacking. Women are not tough enough to hunt which is why you never see them out there. This also started in the beginning of time

            Gender does indeed play a huge part in today’s society. If you go anywhere outside of your home, you can see shops, newsstands, and movies that are geared toward a certain gender or a certain group. This will never change in our culture. Some may say that it does not matter and some may say that it is not right to exclude anybody in these forms of entertainment. You have to remember that they do not care about the feelings of certain individuals as long as they make some money and make a good story.
